American comedian and actress, born 1895 as Grace Ethel Cecile Rosalie Allen. Best known as one half of the comedy duo Burns and Allen, starring with her husband George Burns in The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show (1950-1958). Her "illogical logic" — a comic style in which she appeared to misunderstand everything while creating elaborate confusions — made her one of the most beloved comediennes in American entertainment. She retired from performing in 1958 and died in 1964.
