Swedish stage and screen actor, born in 1890. The leading dramatic actor of the Swedish theatre of his generation, he was recruited to play the title role in F.W. Murnau's Faust (1926), where he portrayed both the aged and rejuvenated Faust. He returned to Sweden and remained a towering figure of the Stockholm stage. He died in 1938. His grandson, also named Gösta Ekman, became a well-known Swedish film director and actor.
