American actress, writer, and producer, born 1899. Best known as the creator, writer, and star of The Goldbergs, which began as a radio series in 1929 and transitioned to television in 1949, making it one of the earliest sitcoms on television. Berg was a pioneer in television, writing thousands of scripts and winning the first Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She was one of the most influential women in early broadcasting. She died in 1966.
