Gertrude Astor

American actress, born in 1887. She began as a saxophonist in a touring band before moving into films at Universal and then MGM. A tall, striking supporting player, she appeared in The Strong Man (1926) with Harry Langdon and in The Cat and the Canary (1927). She worked steadily through the 1920s and into sound in comic and character roles. She died in 1977.
