George Hill

American film director, born in 1895. A MGM director who specialized in tough, realistic dramas, he directed The Big House (1930), the prison film that set the template for the genre. He began as a cinematographer and served in World War I before turning to directing. His career was cut short when he died in an auto accident in 1934.
