George Fitzmaurice

American film director of the silent and early sound eras, known for polished, stylish melodramas. Born in 1885, he directed for Paramount and United Artists and is best remembered for The Son of the Sheik (1926), Rudolph Valentino's final film, and for a string of stylish romances with Ronald Colman. His work was noted for handsome composition and a sure hand with stars.
