American radio and television performer (1899-1972), best known as co-creator and star of Amos 'n' Andy. With Charles Correll, he created and voiced the animated series Calvin and the Colonel (1961-1962), voicing Colonel Montgomery J. Klaxon, a shrewd fox, in what was effectively a cartoon transposition of their Amos 'n' Andy characters.
