Fredi Washington

American film actress and civil rights activist, born in 1903. She made her film debut in Black and Tan (1929) opposite Duke Ellington and is best known for her role in Imitation of Life (1934). She was an outspoken advocate for African American actors and co-founded the Negro Actors Guild. She died in 1994.
