French stage actor, born in 1851. A longtime member of the Comédie-Française, he appears in Carl Theodor Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) as Bishop Cauchon, the figure who presides over Joan's trial. His work was primarily in the theater rather than on film.
