Émile Cohl

French caricaturist and animator, born Émile Eugène Jean Louis Courtet in 1857. Working at Gaumont, he made Fantasmagorie (1908), generally considered the first fully hand-drawn animated film. Cohl made hundreds of short animated films and is regarded as a founding figure of European animation.
