El Brendel

American comedian, born Elmer Brendel in 1890. A vaudeville comic known for his "Swedish" dialect routines, he became a reliable comic relief player in early sound films. He played the comic sidekick Buddy in The Big Trail (1930) and starred in a series of short comedies in the 1930s. His act went out of fashion as dialect comedy fell from favor. He died in 1964.
