American film director, born in 1892. He began as an actor and stuntman before moving into directing comedies and westerns. He is best known for his work with Buster Keaton at MGM, directing The Cameraman (1928) and several other Keaton features as the studio moved Keaton toward sound. He later directed many of Red Skelton's comedies at MGM.
