Edmond O'Brien

American actor. Born in 1915, O'Brien was a reliable character lead in films of the 1940s and 1950s, equally convincing as an ordinary man in over his head and as a tough professional. He is best known for the lead in D.O.A. (1950) and for his supporting role in The Hitch-Hiker (1953). He won an Academy Award for his supporting role in The Barefoot Contessa (1954). He died in 1985.
