Clayton Moore
1 credit on HibingeTV
American actor best known for playing the Lone Ranger in the television series of the same name from 1949 to 1957. Born Jack Carlton Moore in Chicago in 1914, he began his career as a circus acrobat and stuntman before moving into film in the late 1930s. After serving in the Army Air Forces during World War II, he landed the role that would define his career. He wore the mask and silver colt revolvers for over 160 episodes, and though he left the show briefly in a contract dispute (replaced by John Hart for 52 episodes), he returned and remained the Lone Ranger for the rest of the run. He legally changed his name to the Lone Ranger and spent decades making personal appearances in costume until a 1979 court order barred him from wearing the mask in public.
