American radio and television performer (1890-1972), best known as co-creator and star of Amos 'n' Andy. With Freeman Gosden, he created and voiced the animated series Calvin and the Colonel (1961-1962), voicing Calvin T. Burnside, a dimwitted bear, in what was effectively a cartoon transposition of their Amos 'n' Andy characters.
