Charles Bickford

American actor, born in 1891. A rugged, intense performer who became one of Hollywood's most reliable character leads. He starred in Cecil B. DeMille's Dynamite (1929) and went on to a long career playing tough, principled men in films like The Farmer's Daughter (1947) and Johnny Belinda (1948). He was nominated for three Academy Awards. He died in 1967.
