American film actress, born in 1900. Discovered by D.W. Griffith, she became his leading lady of the 1920s, starring in features such as The Sorrows of Satan (1926) and Isn't Life Wonderful. Her dancing background gave her a distinctive, modern screen presence. She retired from acting after Griffith left filmmaking. She died in 1991.
