Exactly what the title promises, and one of the great camp titles of
the 1960s. Maria Frankenstein (Narda Onyx), granddaughter of the
Baron posing as his daughter, sets up a frontier lab outside a
Western town to perfect artificial brains, and finds her ideal test
subject when the wounded outlaw Jesse James (John Lupton) stumbles
in with his dying partner. Shot in eight days by veteran
poverty-row director William Beaudine — his final film, after
hundreds of features and serials stretching back to the silent era —
it is cheap, padded, and weirdly sincere, a B-western colliding with
a monster movie. Perennial fodder for bad-movie nights and a staple
of every public domain horror collection. The film is in the public
domain.
