Hungarian-American actor who defined the role of Dracula on both stage and screen. Born in Lugos, Hungary in 1882, he played the Count in the 1927 Broadway production and reprised the role in Tod Browning's 1931 film. The role typecast him for life. He spent the rest of his career in horror films, increasingly low-budget ones. His last films were with Ed Wood, including Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959), which was released after his death in 1956.
