American actress. Born in 1907, Stanwyck was one of the most versatile stars of Hollywood's golden age, working across comedy, drama, and film noir. Her films include Stella Dallas (1937), Meet John Doe (1941), Double Indemnity (1944), and The Lady Eve (1941). She had a long career in film and later television, winning four Emmy Awards. She died in 1990.
