American actor, comedian, and singer, born 1926. Best known for starring as Sheriff Andy Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968) and as attorney Ben Matlock on Matlock (1986-1995). His folksy, warm-hearted persona made him one of the most beloved figures in American television. He died in 2012.
