Ukrainian-born American film director known for his work in Hollywood and Europe. He co-directed several films in Frank Capra's "Why We Fight" series during World War II while serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. His other notable films include Confessions of a Nazi Spy (1939) and The Snake Pit (1948).
