Allan Dwan

Canadian-born American film director born in 1885 whose career spanned the silent and sound eras. Dwan directed more than four hundred films, from early one-reelers to features like The Gorilla (1939) and Sands of Iwo Jima (1949). He was known for his efficiency and his ability to work in any genre. He continued directing into the late 1950s.
