American silent film actress, best known as the original Lady Diana Mayo in The Sheik (1921), the role that made her a star opposite Rudolph Valentino. Born in 1898, she was discovered by actress Clara Kimball Young and signed to Paramount, where she became a leading lady of the early 1920s. She reprised her role in The Son of the Sheik (1926). Her career faded with the coming of sound, and she retired from the screen in the late 1920s.
