Adolphe Menjou

American actor whose polished mustache and tailored suits made him the quintessential man-about-town of Hollywood's early decades. Born in 1890, he began in silent films and rose to stardom as Dr. Raoul de St. Hubert in The Sheik (1921) and the lead in Charlie Chaplin's A Woman of Paris. His urbane style carried easily into sound films, and he earned a Best Actor nomination for The Front Page (1931). He worked steadily through the 1950s as a character actor.
