American independent film production company founded by Samuel Goldwyn in 1923 after the Goldwyn Company he had co-founded merged into Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Operating as an independent producer with distribution through United Artists and later other studios, Goldwyn's company produced prestige pictures throughout the studio era, including Stella Dallas (1925), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), and Guys and Dolls (1955). Goldwyn was known for his emphasis on quality and his oft-quoted maxims about the movie business.
