The Office of Strategic Services (OSS) was the United States' intelligence agency during World War II, the predecessor to the modern CIA. Its Field Photographic Branch, under the direction of John Ford, produced training films including Undercover: How to Operate Behind Enemy Lines (1943), the first film ever produced by an intelligence service to train its agents.
