American film production company founded in 1913 by Jesse L. Lasky, Samuel Goldfish (later Goldwyn), and Cecil B. DeMille. It produced some of the earliest feature films in Hollywood, including The Squaw Man (1914), the first feature shot in Los Angeles. Its productions include Carmen (1915) and The Cheat (1915), both directed by DeMille. In 1916 the company merged with Adolph Zukor's Famous Players Film Company to form Famous Players-Lasky, the corporate ancestor of Paramount Pictures.
