American film studio founded in 1912 by Mack Sennett in Edendale, California. Keystone Studios pioneered silent screen comedy, introducing the Keystone Cops, the Bathing Beauties, and the first screen appearances of Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin made his film debut at Keystone in 1914, appearing in Making a Living and introducing the Tramp character in Kid Auto Races at Venice. The studio was known for its fast-paced, slapstick comedies and was a training ground for many of early Hollywood's greatest comedians, including Fatty Arbuckle, Mabel Normand, and Harold Lloyd.
