Jewel Productions

American film production company founded by Universal Pictures president Carl Laemmle in 1920 as a prestige subsidiary of Universal. Jewel Productions was created to produce higher-budget "special" productions for Universal release, including Erich von Stroheim's *Foolish Wives* (1922), which was famously promoted as "the first million-dollar picture." The company was dissolved in the mid-1920s as Universal consolidated its production.
