Gainsborough Pictures

British film production company, founded in 1924. A major British studio of the silent and early sound era, it produced Alfred Hitchcock's Easy Virtue (1928) and a number of other British features. It was later absorbed into the Rank Organisation. In the 1940s it became known for a series of popular melodramas, including The Man in Grey (1943).
